| SYMPTOMS | Common signs of a faulty or uncalibrated SAS include ABS/ESC or 'Service AdvanceTrac' lights, intermittent or lost electric power steering assist on EPAS vehicles, and DTCs such as C1B00 (Steering Angle Sensor) with subtypes like :49 or :62. Steering may feel inconsistent after alignment until the SAS is reset. |
| TROUBLESHOOTING | Before replacement, scan for ABS/PSCM codes and check live data for angle plausibility. After any steering/suspension work or SAS replacement, perform a Steering Angle Sensor Calibration with a capable scan tool (e.g., IDS/FORScan), with the wheel physically centered, and then clear related DTCs. |
| INSTALLATION | Typical location is behind/around the clockspring on the steering column. Disconnect battery, remove column shrouds, disconnect the SAS electrical connector, replace the sensor, then reassemble. Perform SAS calibration after installation. |
