| SYMPTOMS | Hard cold starts, excessive white smoke on startup in very cold weather, or cabin heat taking unusually long to appear can indicate a non?functioning block heater. Visible coolant seepage around the heater body or at the cord connection, scorch marks on the connector, or a tripping GFCI outlet can indicate a failed element or damaged power cord. |
| TROUBLESHOOTING | With the cord unplugged from AC power, inspect the element and cord for cracks, corrosion, or heat damage. Check continuity of the element and inspect for coolant leaks at the seal and at the connector. If a GFCI trips immediately on plug?in, inspect the cord and connector for moisture intrusion or shorting. Replace any damaged cord before use. |
| INSTALLATION | Allow engine to cool. Drain coolant to below heater level. Access the element on the RH/front side of the block. Disconnect the power cord, remove the element, clean the bore/sealing area, and install the new element with a fresh seal. Reconnect the cord, route it away from exhaust/moving parts, refill coolant, and bleed air. Mounted location and general placement are shown/described in Duramax?specific listings. |

| GENERAL NOTES | This is a 1000W, 120VAC engine coolant heater (block heater). GM advises using the block heater intermittently for cold starts and not leaving it plugged in continuously; typical use is several hours prior to start in sub?freezing conditions. On Duramax applications, the factory K05 power cord may be shipped bundled in the engine bay; route it to a convenient front?bumper location as needed. |
