SYMPTOMS Common signs of a failing starter include a single click with no crank, intermittent no‑start, slow cranking, grinding after engagement, or needing to tap the starter to crank. Related DTCs can include P0615 (Starter Relay Circuit) when there are control‑side electrical faults.
TROUBLESHOOTING Before replacing, load‑test the battery, verify clean/tight battery terminals and grounds, and perform a starter circuit voltage‑drop test across positive and ground paths. Check the starter relay, ignition switch/neutral safety switch (or park/neutral position), and the small solenoid trigger wire for proper voltage during crank.
INSTALLATION Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Note wire locations, remove electrical connectors and mounting bolts, and transfer any brackets/heat shields. Install the replacement starter, reconnect wiring, and tighten fasteners to service‑manual torque. Reconnect the battery and verify proper cranking. Inspect ring gear and listen for abnormal engagement noise.
